How Long Youll Take Them
A course of antibiotics for uncomplicated pneumonia treatment is usually for five to seven days. One course will usually be enough to cure your pneumonia. In some cases, you may need more than one course of antibiotics if your infection doesnt start improving or it seems like its not responding to the medications.
Stay in touch with your doctor to ensure your infection is clearing up. Youll likely start to feel better and have some symptom relief one to three days after you start your pneumonia treatment, but it may take a week or more for your symptoms to go away completely.

Characteristics Of Adverse Reactions Reported And Recommendation If Tendonitis Occurs
Serious side effects reported include tendonitis, tendon rupture, arthralgia, pain in extremities, gait disturbance, neuropathies associated with paraesthesia, depression, fatigue, memory impairment, sleep disorders, and impaired hearing, vision, taste, and smell. In the musculoskeletal system, tendonitis and tendon rupture were most commonly reported, and in the nervous system paraesthesia was most commonly reported.
Tendon damage can occur within 48 hours of starting fluoroquinolone treatment, but onset of symptoms and signs of the adverse reactions may be delayed several months after stopping treatment.
At the first sign of tendinitis , treatment with the fluoroquinolone should be discontinued and alternative treatment should be considered. The affected limb or limbs should be appropriately treated . Corticosteroids should not be used if signs of tendinopathy occur.

Why Do Physicians Prescribe The Wrong Antibiotic
In some cases, healthcare providers have a good reason to choose a different drug. A patient may be allergic to penicillin, for example, or the first drug they tried might not be helping.
But often, the main reason seems to simply be convenience, Hersh says.
For example, the new JAMA study showed that patients frequently are prescribed azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics instead of the recommended first-line treatments, amoxicillin or penicillin.
Patients tend to favor azithromycin because you typically take it once daily for three to five days, Hersh says. Amoxicillin has to be taken two to three times daily for a week.
But azithromycin’s popularity has also been its undoing. In some areas, as many as 25 percent of the bacteria causing ear infections, sinus infections, and strep throat are now resistant to the drug, Hersh says.

What Is A Urinary Tract Infection
If you have ever experienced the frequent urge to go the bathroom with painful and burning urination, you have probably experienced a urinary tract infection . UTIs are one of the most common types of infections, accounting for over 10 million visits to health care providers each year. Roughly 40% of women experience a UTI at some time, and in women, it is the most common infection. Healthcare costs related to UTIs exceed $1.6 billion per year.
