General Tips For Using Animal Drugs
If you intend to use or if you come across any type of medication whether thats antibiotics or not, that has been authorized by the FDA for use in animals, will it work for humans as well?
A few things to keep in mind:
You should be double sure that the medicine you are about to take will not hurt you. Cause then, whats the point?
Also, be sure that animal medicine doesnt go by a different name than the human versions.
However, even animal medicines that have the same name as human medicines, they both might not be identical. For instance:
- FDA regulations for animal and human drugs are determined separately. Fillers, additives, and contaminants that arent permitted in human pills may be permitted in animal medicines and used in animal drugs.
- Medications are manufactured to absorb in the type of animal body theyre approved for. A calf has more than one stomach and a fish is tiny. Are all animal bodies equal? Not likely.
Is Fish Aid Antibiotics Safe For Humans
Antibiotics in pet stores have not been approved by the Federal Drug Administration and there is no evidence to say whether they are safe or effective for use in dogs and cats. The FDA has not approved the use of antibiotics in cats and dogs. DOGS AND CATS THAT HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS: None.
A Symptom Of Us Healthcare
Sharp suggested that people taking antibiotics meant for guppies is a sign of how inaccessible and expensive American health care has become. In fact, some reviews even allude to this, noting that the fish pills are a “great alternative to racking up debt at the fish hospital.”
Though generic antibiotics are often very affordable, or even free, at pharmacies, the cost of visiting a doctor to get a proper prescription can be prohibitive for some people, particularly people who don’t have health insurance. Studies have shown it’s common for people to keep old prescriptions of antibiotics to use in the future without a diagnosis, or even take their pets’ antibiotics.
Online, there are plenty of posts from people asking about or recommending using medication intended for animals as an alternative to getting a proper prescription. It’s not entirely surprising that they might also be turning to fish antibiotics from Amazon.
With our better understanding of antibiotic resistance, doctors have also become more judicious in doling out antibiotics. Studies show that people are frustrated and dissatisfied when they go in hoping for penicillin and are told no, which could be another driver behind the aftermarket on fish meds.

Strategies For Getting Other Prescription Medications
For medications that treat non-infectious illness, such as cholesterol or blood pressure drugs, you will also need a prescription. These medications are not available in aquarium supply houses, so how can you work to stockpile them?
You may consider asking your physician to prescribe a higher dose than the amount you usually take. Many drugs come in different dosages. If your medicine is a 20 milligram dosage, for example, you might ask your doctor to prescribe the 40 mg dosage. You would then cut the medication in half take your normal dosage and store the other half of the pill. Its very important to assure your physician that you will continue to follow their medical advice and not take more medicine than is appropriate for your condition. Your success in having your request granted will depend on the doctor.
Others have managed to obtain needed prescriptions by indicating that they are traveling for long periods of time out of the country or telling their physician some other falsehood. I cant recommend this method, because I believe that dishonesty breaks the bond of trust between doctor and patient. Consider having a serious discussion with your healthcare provider. Describe your concerns about not having needed medications in a disaster situation. You dont have to describe the disaster as a complete societal collapse any catastrophe could leave you without access to your doctor for an extended period.
Where Can I Buy Fish Antibiotics
One of the most common questions people ask me about fish antibiotics for survival, is where can I buy fish antibiotics? One of the key things is that you do you research on your own and buy from a reputable manufacturer. I recommend purchasing online and that you do not buy from Craigs List, EBay, etc.
One of the most trusted brands for fish antibiotics in the prepping community is ThomasLabs. This is where my own research led me and this is the only source I will buy from. There are tons of companies that offer ThomasLabs brand fish antibiotics. But you still must do your own research, then check the pills you receive using the pill identifier once they arrive. There are no regulations on fish antibiotics so USP and Pharmaceutical grade labels can be misleading.

What Is Fish Mox
Fish mox is one of the many fish antibiotics that are used to treat bacterial infections in ornamental and pet fish. The antibiotics that are used to treat them are the same or similar to the antibiotics that are provided for human use, as well. Fish antibiotics currently on the market dont require a prescription and mainly come in lots of approximately 30-100. Labs make several forms of them, including capsules, tablets, single- use powder packets and pure bulk powder jars.
Now it may be a little reckless to rely on fish antibiotics when civilization is our safety net. Still, in the absence of such amenities, youll want to be thinking ahead to provide enough antibiotics to protect your family or group in a collapse situation.
Many survivalists often stockpile these fish meds in anticipation of emergencies where they might not have access to prescription antibiotics. This type of creative thinking can help you get much-needed medicine, thereby increasing your odds of long-term survival and putting you exactly where you want to be once disaster strikes.

Fish Amoxicillin: Not What The Doctor Ordered
CLAIM: Taking fish amoxicillin used in aquariums is the same as using amoxicillin prescribed by a doctor, just less expensive and does not require a prescription.
APS ASSESSMENT: False. Antibiotics available in pet stores have not been approved by the Federal Drug Administration and there is no evidence to say whether they are safe or effective for humans.
THE FACTS: Although fish amoxicillin sold online and in pet stores is labeled as not intended for human use, claims continue to circulate on social media stating that consumers can save money by opting to take the fish version of the antibiotic.
Same antibiotic, same pill, same manufacturer, same drug. One you have to have insurance and you gotta get a Rx from a Doctor and get it from the pharmacy. The other you can get from the pet store in the aquatic department. Thank me later, stated one Facebook post with more than 12,000 shares.
The FDA has not approved antibiotics available in pet stores or online for ornamental fish, Monique Richards, an FDA spokeswoman, said in an email. The federal agency cannot confirm whether the antibiotics are safe, effective or are manufactured to quality standards.
They may or may not contain the medicine the label claims, she said. Additionally, there are serious risks to taking antibiotics without a health care providers input. Antibiotics dont work against viruses, for instance.
Taking the wrong antibiotics for an infection can also lead to antibiotic resistance.
The Argument For Taking Fish Antibiotics
As mentioned above, the biggest advantage of getting fish antibiotics is that theyre so easy to come across. Take a quick look through Amazon, and youll see tons of different options to choose from that you can purchase without any sort of prescription. Just add the antibiotic to your cart, pay for it with your card, and itll be at your doorstep within a few days.
Most antibiotics cost around $20 to $50, and when compared to a doctors visit that requires a prescription and a few hundred dollars, it makes sense as to why people would choose to go this route when trying to figure out how to get antibiotics for prepping.
So, the ease of use is certainly there, but what about the safety side of things? These are fish antibiotics, and as such, werent designed for human use.
Well get into what some have to say against this in a bit, but theres a decent argument to be made for why some firmly believe in taking the stuff.
For starters, fish antibiotics are quite similar to whats prescribed to humans. When buying fish antibiotics, buy ones that include only one ingredient, such as amoxicillin, penicillin, ampicillin, etc.
There are some fish antibiotics that contain other ingredients for fish health supplements, and these are the ones youll absolutely want to avoid.

Is Fish Mox Safe For Humans To Take
I found out that fish mox is safe for humans. Aquarium Aquarium is written on the side of Thomas Fish Mox Forte. This is the same marking that is found on all of the fish that are sold in the United States.
It is also the mark that was used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service when they first approved the use of this fish for human consumption. I have also found that the markings on this particular fish do not appear on any other fish sold by Thomas. This means that Thomas is not the only person who has used this mark on their fish.
I will be happy to assist you.

Preppers Guide To Using Fish Antibiotics For Human Consumption
While walking home from a long day of hunting just three weeks after the collapse, you begin to hear the faint sound of your daughter crying in the distance. You immediately rush over to her as fast as you can, only to find that she cut the palm of her hand while playing with a machete in the woods.
Somehow you manage to calm her down a bit and once you agree to stop when she says so, she finally allows you to treat her wound. Since the cut doesnt seem to be too deep, you simply wash her hand with a little bit of clean water and apply a bandage with Neosporin onto the cut. To keep the bandage from falling off, you wrap some medical tape around her hand as well.
Upon sunrise the next morning, you thoroughly clean her wound once again and believe that your job is done. You tell her to rest for the day so she wont get her cut infected, but being the young girl that she is, she went right back to playing in the woods whenever no one was looking of course resulting in an infection.
Its not until a couple days later that you begin to notice the cut on her hand is starting to swell. You promptly return to cleaning her wound, but nothing you do seems to stop the infection from spreading. In hope of finding antibiotics, you attempt to search through every abandoned house you can find but unfortunately, youre unsuccessful.

Are The Aquarium Antibiotics The Same Thing
My understanding is that if the pill identifier numbers are the same on the aquarium antibiotics, as on the human antibiotics, and vice versa, they have to be the same thing. This makes 100% sense to me as if you overdosed on one of the antibiotics, you would provide the pill identifier number to Poison Control for example, and they would identify the ingredients based on the pill identifier number regardless of whether they are prescription antibiotics or aquarium antibiotics.
All of the antibiotics above require a prescription from a doctor and usually a doctor will only prescribe a single course of treatment to cure your illness. However, they can all be bought from pet stores without prescription. This means you can stockpile these common antibiotics, in case the SHTF, something which would normally be impossible to achieve.
The bottom line is we should not start going to the pet store when we have a cough or a sore throat, as it is clearly important to get a diagnosis and treatment from a doctor. I think the thing to bear in mind is that in the future, if things go wrong, we will have to improvise many things and many things may be less than ideal. We should be reluctant to take aquarium branded antibiotics today, but having access to some in a SHTF future could be vital.
Whilst we are discussing antibiotics, be sure to read the two articles below, from the BBC. They make scary reading Antibiotic overuse, and resistance is a real and very worrying.
What Is The Fish Mox Dosage For Humans
Most penicillin and cephalosporin meds are taken at 500mg dosages 3-4 times a day for adults, and will treat many skin and respiratory infections.
Metronidazole and Doxycycline are taken twice a day and will treat many types of diarrheal disease.
Fish Mox comes in a pill dosage of 250mg and Fish Mox Forte comes in 500mg. According to Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy, an Amoxicillin dose is usually administered 3 times a day. Usually, 20-50 mg per kilogram of weight .
A common childs dosage would be 250 mg and a common max dosage for adults would be 500 mg. Works out conveniently that these are the exact amounts that they come in the bottles. The drug is taken orally 3 times a day for 10-14 days.
If it is a child or somebody that cant swallow a pill, it is possible to crush the capsules up and mix into a liquid , but dont do this with any medication that has a time-released marking on them. These are intended to be absorbed over time, and too much at once may not be good.
One of the most important things to do when using an antibiotic is to not stop taking the medicine, even if your condition starts improving. Many times, patients will improve after 3 days, because most of the bacteria are killed, but if you stop taking it, the remaining bacteria can multiply .

Fish Antibiotics For Survival
One of the major issues many preppers face in preparing for a grid down or SHTF scenario is what to do about illnesses, infections, and injuries that are bound to happen. The world will be in chaos. Doctors and pharmacies will be overrun quickly. Public services will be overwhelmed or possibly shut down entirely.
Preparing now, to deal with illness, disease, and injury, by adding fish antibiotics to your stockpile, is one more way to tip the odds in your favor when SHTF. In truth, fish antibiotics for survival is a pretty controversial topic. There are some who believe it to be insanity. But others swear that fish antibiotics can save human lives. Youll ultimately have to decide for yourself, all I can provide is information to help you decide.
Your first line of defense is, of course, prevention. But you wont be able to wrap yourself or loved ones in a bubble to keep them from getting sick or injured when SHTF.
Luckily, many symptoms of illnesses, injuries, and diseases can be treated with standard first aid supplies that are readily available and easy to stockpile. Still others can be treated or healed with readily accessible medicinal herbs and plants that can be foraged or cultivated.
